Interview with paranormal romance author Caris Roane + giveaway international

Please welcome paranormal romance author Caris Ronae here on Bitten today!!

Laurie-Hello, Caris! I want to thank you for letting me pick your brain again LOL. First I have to know who’s the couple in book 4? You’re killing me with the cover because so far all of your covers have men with wings and this cover has a woman with wings, so who is it??? PPPLEASSEE!!

Cairs-You should know by now it takes so little to prompt me to share anything about my Guardians of Ascension series.  Book #4, which is BORN OF ASHES, is Warrior Jean-Pierre and his woman, Fiona, who you have already met in WINGS OF FIRE!  I can hardly wait for you to read the fourth book, because of all my warriors, Jean-Pierre is the most tender.  He also has a killer French accent!

Laurie-Why did you choose to write romance?

Cairs-It’s all Jane Austen’s fault!  She may be considered a literary icon, but for me she told great romances!  The truth is, I’m a sucker for a happily ever after story, one in which the hero and heroine have some serious growing to do but once they get there, the passion is amazing and you have a real belief that this couple is going to make it over the long haul.

Laurie-What was the most difficult thing you had to do in writing this series?

Cairs-Raising the bar again and again!  By book #3, I could see how easy it would be to fall into the trap of repetition.  So, even with some of the usual elements I include in each story, like ‘spectacle’ or  ‘bonding elements’ or ‘preternatural power’, I found that it became critical to change things up with every book and to make sure that each story had plenty of surprises for the reader.  So, yeah, keeping things fresh and moving forward in interesting ways has been the most challenging.

Laurie-What was the easiest thing you had to do in writing this series?

Cairs-Well, actually, to be quite honest, *blushing*, I think it’s been the love scenes.  Once I have a strong feeling about my hero and heroine, the scenes where they are together in a romantic, physical way just seem to flow.  But what’s been so interesting to me about each couple is how different they are when it comes to the bedroom.  It’s been a surprise and an absolute delight.

Laurie-As you know I love your World of Ascension series and I know all about the hotness that you have going on in the books *still fanning self*, but I am sure I have a few followers that knows nothing about your series, so would you tell them a little about it?

Cairs-Here’s my Guardians of Ascension soup-stock recipe:  TAKE a band of hunky vampire warriors with wings, ADD heroic women with emerging power in need of protection from the enemy, FOLD IN desperate situations because the villainous Commander Greaves is intent on taking over both Mortal Earth and Second Earth, THEN ADD a world of six ascending dimensions and SPRINKLE LIBERALLY with heinous death vampires who must survive on dying blood or perish.  Finally, GARNISH with one snarky, profane, Amazonian woman, who is extremely fashion-challenged, but who serves as the Supreme High Administrator of all of Second Earth.  Serves:  unlimited!

Laurie-Do you have a favorite hunky warrior yet? If so who?

Caris-My favorite warrior is always the one I’m writing at the moment, so that means I’m totally into Thorne right now.  But when I go back and read the stories of the four preceding him, I’m right there, in love with each all over again!  So the real answer is no, of course not!!!  No favorites here!

Laurie-Now, on to the love scenes *clears throat* no, I’m not going to ask how you prepare for them, nope so not going there LOL. I want to ask do you have a favorite love scene between a couple in this series? I know each couples are different when it comes to these scenes and as you write them they become a part of your life in return they really stick in your head and heart, so I’m hoping you have an extra special scene that really stuck with you.

Cairs-Well, it’s not that it’s my absolute favorite love scene of the series, but it’s one that surprised me in the funniest way.  I had finished WINGS OF FIRE in November of 2010.   But I didn’t work on the revisions until the following March, so I’d been away from the book for awhile.  I’m reading along, and I get to a scene where Antony says, (P. 233) “I’d ask you to open your eyes and look at me, but I have something different in mind.”  (This is the love scene that takes place in the turret room.  OH, you’re blushing again!  Well, you asked!)  But here’s my point, when I read that sentence after four months away from the book, honest-to-God, I had no idea what Antony was talking about.  I couldn’t remember what I’d written!   So, I read on completely anxious to find out what Antony was going to do to Parisa!  I thought that was pretty awesome because it meant that when I originally created that love scene, I was soooo in the moment, that I just went with it.  I think it’s a great scene because he coaxes Parisa to use one of her special powers!  Man-oh-man, I wish I could bestow on all your readers even one of these paranormal adventures!  Wouldn’t that be amazing!

Laurie-What’s been the best thing that has happened since you became a writer?

Cairs-Meeting people like you!  You’ll probably think that’s cheezy, but it’s really true…assuming of course that you’re not asking about the writing itself, which is also an amazing experience.  But what I’ve truly come to treasure are the people I’ve met along the way, those wonderful people who have extended themselves to me in super-generous ways, whether expressing their delight in my work, or whether it’s a fellow author who can commiserate on the darker days, or fans who can’t get enough!  That kind of interaction and feedback has been awesome!

Laurie-Can you give us a sneak peek of what’s to come? Anything juice?

Cairs-Oh, boy, Laurie!  I’ll refer back to the answer I offered earlier when I said it’s all about raising the bar!  When I began Thorne’s book, I wanted something really special that would take this wonderful man from a place of despair and rage, to one of tremendous growth, and that’s exactly what happens to him in OBSIDIAN FLAME.  I mean, I love where he ends up soooo much on every possible level!  But it’s with his woman that I’m pleased the most, because they have a new shared power that takes their passionate love  to a whole new level…*growwlll*!  I’ll take a risk here, and share a couple more details.  As you know, in my series, deep-mind engagement is part of the experience between a warrior and his woman and I’m sure you know how great that is for them, how much pleasure it brings them.  But in Thorne’s book, their shared emerging power takes place within each of their minds and I describe that power in great detail.  But low and behold, that power has another application.  Without going into too much detail and ruining the surprise, I’ll just add that Thorne is able to enter this new power of hers, just as she can enter his, and the result is absolute FIREWORKS!

Was that juicy enough?!?

Today, I’ll be giving away a signed copy of the winning commenter’s choice of:  ASCENSION, BURNING SKIES or WINGS OF FIRE! Giveaways is international!

You can find me at carisroane.com , at twitter.com/#!/carisroane, or you can contact me at carisroane@gmail.com.

For those of you who want to share, do you know what I’d love to hear about today--what characters have you come to love in your favorite paranormal books?  This character can be anyone from any book that comes to mind, from any author, just be sure to tell me what it was about that character that really touched you!

Finally, thank you, Laurie, so much for having me here today!
Blessings, Caris

Caris Roane Bio:

Caris Roane has loved paranormal elements in romance for decades and some of her earliest novels included vampires as well as characters from Greek mythology.  Having been published for over two decades, she was thrilled to receive the Romantic Times 2005 Career Achievement Award in Regency Romance.
In recent years, she tackled the warrior vampire myth creating a world made up of ascending dimensional earths.  Second Earth, a global society caught in a deadly war, is the world of the vampire and for some mystical, magical reason, her vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings.  Flight now forms an integral part of every novel of her Guardians of Ascension series.
Because writing is both a lifestyle and a passion, Caris spends part of every day writing.
She lives in Arizona with her two cats, Gizzy and Sebastien.

  1. The first one that comes to mind is Zsadist from Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward. He has overcome so much from his past and learnt to live again, the way he is so protective and loving of his wife and daughter is so heart warming.

  2. The one that comes immediately to mind is Tegan from Midnight Awakening by Lara Adrian. I love this series but Tegan is my favorite warrior because he has scars but is still able to love.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. Oh, thank you for the giveaway and a wonderful interview! One of my favorites is Gregory from The Dark Carpathians series by Christine Feehan. I just love how he is this tough overbearing healer, and how Savannah can completely make jokes out of his behavior. Another one is Barrons from Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I don't think you can classify him in any way. He is just so much more as to what he says and does.

  4. What a great interview!!! I just purchased Ascension on my Nook!! I would love to win a signed copy of Burning Skies!!!! Right now my fav character is Amaury in Amaury's Hellion by Tina Folsom!!! He's so HOT!!! ;-) Love his aggressive relationship with Nina!!! ;-) Thanks for the chance to win!!!

  5. I'm thinking about Damon from L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries. Even if he puts up the bad guy atitude and behaves really bad sometimes,he is always there for his brother and his friends and in the end sacrifices everything, even himself for those he cares about.

  6. Hmm... I guess you could say I am a serial series reader so there have a lot of characters that I have grown to love. If I have to pick one I will choose (just for today) Wrath from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Wrath is cool, dark, mysterious, hawt! and hawt! Did I say he is hawt?

I look forward to starting your series.

  7. Good morning, everyone!
I'm happy to be back at Bitten By Paranormal Romance...and yeah, aren't we 'bitten'? Great name!

Jet - overcoming is an important theme in paranormals because I think it reflects the theme of all our lives.

Lauren - some of my heroes have scars as well. It's a great visual to reflect what's happened within, an indicator that it's going to be tough for this man to find his way to love. It's the struggle that we relate to, what we value as we watch our heroes transform.

Kara-Karina - I love it when a hero is dark, and really caught up in his world, so much so that he has a hard time laughing--then his woman shows up and she turns everything around.

JFort - Well, let's face it! We like 'em HOT and it's that aggressiveness that gets us!

Mihaela - I think that quality of 'always being there' is one of the finest a man can have. We want to know that our men will stick and it's part of what makes us fall in love with them.

Tina-buried-under-books! Love your handle, lol! I am Caris-buried-under-edits...lol! But try to tell me again...do you really think Wrath is HAWT?!? Great spelling. Cool, dark, and hawt! Aw, what more can you ask for!

This is a great start! Can't wait to see what more of you have to say!

  8. Thanks for yet another great interview Caris! And you're always so generous with the giveaways. You Rock! I would especially love to win the copy of Wings of Fire, because I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet! :(

As for my favorite character, I'm always drawn back to Maddox from Gena Showalter's Lord of the Underworld series. He is so fierce. And I love how the depth of his love rivals the intensity of his temper! Plus, he's just plain 'ole HOT!!!

    ~ Tish

  9. There's so many characters that I love but one that does stand out to me would have to be Raphael from the Guild Hunters series by Nalini Singh! He's strong and charming and seductive and of course dangerous. He's got an intensity that just radiates off of him, and confidence. Not a guy you want to mess with and not one you want to draw the attention of unless you're willing to accept the outcome. Such a hot character and an angel to boot :D

  10. I would love to win, Wings of Fire.

The character that came to mind first is Gregori from Christine Feehan's Dark Series. He is huge, menacing and intimidating. But when his mate was just a girl and he couldn't go to her as a mate yet, he would shift into a huge animal wolf/dog type thing for her to comfort her and he waited until she was old enough to have a mate before he confronted her. How sweet is that?

  11. Tish - You're not the first person to let me know my books aren't on the shelves at their local store! VERY frustrating! And yes, that's the thing about a fierce temper...you know that once this man loves, that love will rival his ferocity...awesome!

Melissa - strong, charming, seductive, dangerous and an angel...oh, wait, I think I might have just passed out! I had the question posed: Prince Charming or the Prince of Darkness? My answer, put them together, pretty please!

    A mountain of blessings,

  12. Mary,
Incredibly sweet! That's the thing that gets us, when the hero is all this massive ferociousness, then he goes and holds a baby or pets a dog or guards and comforts a little girl! Aw!

    An ocean of blessings,

  13. As you know, readers read much faster than our favorite writers write  I’ve spent the last couple of weeks browsing the net in search of a new author to fill my ereaders need for more. I found Bitten by Paranormal Romance this morning, did some reading and quickly went to your webpage. I absolutely love that you posted who your favorite authors are. I will be adding your luscious eye candy to my voracious ereader. As for my favorite character, I really cannot bring it down to only one. I do have two that shine head and shoulders above the others, so here they are: Vishous in the BDB by J.R. Ward. He’s just so completely torn up about who he is and what he wants. Ms. Ward allows us to see and appreciate the fact that “normal” does not exist when speaking about people in her portrayal of Vishous.  I loved each of his lines in each of the series’ books. My second favorite character is Elena in the Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh. This woman has it all and is going for more. She’s normal (in the paranormal way of course), not once in any of the books did I close my eyes and say out loud “WHAT? NO!”. Brilliant authors bring brilliant characters to life and these two are two of the very best. Perhaps one of your characters will oust the two above……

  14. There are so many characters that I have come to love. To name a few I would have to say Anita Blake from Laurell K Hamilton series, Cat Crawfield from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, the Argeneau family from Lyndsay Sands series, Chase family from Lauren Dane series, Angelino family from Roxanne StClair, and The Malory family from Johanna Lindsey. I love to read and follow many different series of books. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win. I would love to win so please choose me for the giveaway.
I had to post anonymous because something wrong with blooger on my end. GFC follower: Chris Bails.

  15. I am at a toss up between Butch in JR Ward Series, because he doesn't let anything stop him even (being human) with being with the one he loves, even risking death to change for her. The next one is Marcus in the Ascension series, He may have tried to fight the bonding experience but he knew he would let go, (example once he returned he started getting paperwork to get to pass on his empire to his second in command on mortal earth). He was able to over come something his torment with Kerrick and the death of his sister and family with Havily’s help. To let go of a grudge like that shows they kind of character a man must have. I am super excited about the next books in the series. I am totally hooked now.

  16. Argg! I posted too soon, how could I have forgotten Simi???

  17. Thanks for the interview and giveaway, Caris! I've read Ascension and really liked it.
Some of the characters I really like are: Hawke from Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series (because he is so sensual and sexy and caring), Simi from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series (because she is so fun and funny and not afraid to be different).

  18. The character who has impacted me the most would have to be Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. He was just such a lonely tragic being, he broke my heart. I love the first two books of Caris' series and I'm sure the third will carry the banner just as proudly. Thanks for the contest.

  19. There are so many how to choose??? Dark hunters, BDB, Fallen, Carpathians, Argeneau’s...etc. They are like chips, I have to have more than one. LOL I think I will throw Armand Argeneau in there. I felt bad that he had lost so much, he needed to find love again.
    musicalfrog@ comcast.net

  20. Please count me in. I'd love to have book 3...wings of fire. I love the world of Ascension..awesome read. I've been reading a lot of YA lately and I have very much enjoyed the characters. Especially Ash from the Iron Fey series. The character that sticks most to my thoughts though is The Greyfriar from Vampire Empire. He's just flat out awesome. Handsome, very loyal to the princess with a true heart. A vampire too ;) Thanks for the giveaway as always.

  21. I too love a happily ever after especially after characters have struggled to get there. It's about seeing them grow, overcome obstacles and become better persons along the way. This is why, some of my favourite paranormal characters are dark and complex. I adored Zsadist from J.R. Ward's BDB series (Lover Awakened).
    Cambonified {at} yahoo {dot} com

  22. My favorite Paranormal Characer is Zsadist From Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward. He had a rough life from the beginning. Even though he was hard on the outside he was still scarred on the inside and needed love to pull him through. Thank you for the giveaway I can not wait to read Ascension!

  23. I would love to win Wings of Fire. One of my favorite characters is Acheron from the dark-hunters. He is such a tortured soul, but has a wicked sense of humor. Thanks for the giveaway.

  24. I think my favorite character, one I love to revisit and look forward to seeing every time a new book comes out, is Sookie Stackhouse. She's just a tough cookie who goes with the flow and never gives up.
Definitely count me in on the giveaway!! I really want to read all of these books :)
    jwitt33 at live dot com

  25. I'm back! How dare the editing of the next book take precedence over this blog! (Thorne and his woman are sure going through it, BTW!)

I've enjoyed all these comments so much! You know, it's wonderful to be published...I love writing my series more than I can say...but hearing all of you talk about your favorite characters reminds me that I don't get to read as much as I used to!!! (Are you playing your miniscule violins for me yet???)

Oldbull - I must confess, I'm particularly fond of Vishous as well...his road back was so impossible! Hope you enjoy my series!

Anonymous - sorry that there was some goof-up on your end. I've been a sucker for Jean-Claude myself for a very long time! It's great to get hooked into a series, which is how I feel about writing my Guardians of Ascension, like every time I sit at the computer I fall into this fabulous alternate universe. If one day you ever feel the earth tremble but no earthquakes are reported, you'll know that I finally made my way permanently into the world I created. Oh, wouldn't that be awesome!

Michelle Nicolle - one of the things I love best about paranormal are these universal themes that most authors deal with: overcoming, getting over grudges and bitterness, surviving tragedy, and facing up to life. Hey, we all have to do that anyway, so it's very satisfying to watch characters we love not only go through what we have to endure, but to get over all this stuff (almost said something else) as well!

Amy - 'sensual, sexy, and caring'...there ya go! What more do we need? Oh, yeah, the humor of a Simi!

Blue SheDevil - You know what was great about how Kenyon developed Acheron, was that she did it one book at a time, one event at a time. Of course, it also helped that he would always arrive, like the cavalry, just in time to save the day...I mean, what's better than that!

Another anonymous - again, it's the symbol of watching someone else grapple with loss that helps us. In so many ways, being human is about loss, about dealing with loss, even if it's small things during the day, or bigger things like friendships, a job, even death. We can empathize so well when we get into a character's life and experience what they've lost. It's just so satisfying to watch them learn how to handle that loss. There also seems to be something built into us, that wants to heal the wound of a worthy man. What is that?!?

Tanya - handsome and loyal 'to the princess with a true heart', the basis of every great romance ever written!

Na - could not have said it better! We believe in the HEA after our characters have let the old stuff go and embraced the new!

Blogging Books - I love how you described that he 'needed love to pull him through'! That really sums it up, doesn't it? And what else, in life, would be powerful enough to transform someone other than love! Awesome!

    Lovin' all your thoughts today!

  26. Oh man I Totally LOVE Bones. Seriously not only is there the accent, but also his love for Cat. Together they are a powerhouse on the hunt and in bed.
This book looks fabulous. I cannot wait to read it. Thank you! This series has been a delight to read throughout the books.

    terilhack at yahoo dot com

  27. There are so many amazing characters in the paranormal world, one of my first paranormal series was the Sookie Stackhouse series, I love Sookie because she is a sweetie, with a little bit extra. She gets dragged into the paranormal underworld, and she goes through some tough stuff...I have big hopes for her though as Charlaine Harris ends her series... Anyhow, great interview! Thanks for the contest:Book Savvy Babe
    booksavvybabe at gmail dot com

  28. Hi, again!

Marlene - two great aspects of character: tortured with a wicked sense of humor! Awesome! Makes me want to create a whole new character with this as the jumping off point!

Julie - characters who never give up and who take what comes, help us mere mortals, I think. If Sookie can do it, then maybe we can, too, vampires or otherwise!

Teril - and I LOVE your enthusiasm! Paranormal is THE BEST! I hope you enjoy WOF! I do a lot with wings in this book, more than the previous stories and the title gives you a clue!

    Many blessings,

  29. Caris, your books are absolutely awesome and leave me yearning for MORE of each warriors story. I love your writing style, it's down to earth and REAL. Not lovey dovey mushy stuff that ISNT real life... I have fallen in love with each warrior so far and just want more more more!! Thanks so much for this series!!

  30. Wow. How do I pick one particular favorite character? Hmm. I don't think I can so I'll put my top faves.

*Acheron- without a doubt. I loved falling for him him through others. Such a sweet man with faith in others even after a horrible life.
*Arthur (Angela Knight)_ who's not gonna love him. He's a selfless honorable geek. Love it!
*Vishous- for facing his trials with such bad*ssness :-)
*Wrath (Larissa Ione)- with his past he should be broken and in a way he is but he still keeps on fighting. Gotta respect that.
*Gator (Christine Feehan)- he's psychic and yummy with that accent. Lol
sorry for having so many favorites. Lol. I love your books and can't wait to finish Wings of Fire. I bought it the day it came out.I'm excited to see how Paris and Medic I find their way together. I cant wait for Endelle. When is her book?.?

  31. I would love to win a copy of Wings of Fire. This series looks great!!

Good reading ~ Escape by Fiction

  32. Sorry - forgot to answer the question...

I really, really like the Shift series by Rachel Vincent - Jace and Ethan are my favorite characters. I also really love the Georgina Kincaid series, Seth and Georgina are the best.

Good reading ~ Escape by Fiction

  33. First I'd love to say I love the Ascension cover!!!

The character that really touched me and that I fell in love with is Vishous from the BDB series by J.R. Ward. When I first read about him, he came off as an arrogant jerk, but when I read his story and all the hurt and pain he suffered at the hands his father, the one person who was supposed to protect him, I was able to understand him and love how he overcame all the darkness and found true happiness while still having a sense of humor!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  34. Thanks for an awesome interview! I have your first book on my Kindle and I can't wait to start it :) Just gotta convince my boss to give me some time off!

I'd have to say the one character that has really captured my literal heart right now is Sirantha Jax from Ann Aguirre's Jax Series. I just finished Aftermath and O.M.G. Aguirre is one hell of a writer...

Can't wait to start your series and fall in luv :) Thanks for the giveaway!

  35. Hi Caris! I absolutely love the series!! I have to say that the one character that comes to mind that really affected me was Acheron. What an awesome character! A tortured soul, bad ass and fantastic individual. I was so glad that he found his match. Thanks for the wonderful contest. I can't wait to read Wings of Fire.

  36. Sorry, I forgot my email address. bpatrick64113@sbcglobal.net

  37. OMG! I really want to read this series. Thank you so much for the giveaway. I am still searching for an Angel series.

  38. I'm back!
How dare life intrude! LOL! I had a board meeting with my local romance writers chapter!

Thanks everyone, for sharing! I love to hear readers gush about their favorite characters!

Babe: just imagine the paranormal world suddenly showing up in your life and not only that but you've got some powers yourself and you didn't even know it! Of course, I think it would be awesome, which is why I write paranormal. My first heroine, Alison, goes through something similar except that she already knows she has all these powers; she just can't figure out where she belongs until what-do-you-know, she starts longing for a new world that suddenly, magically, shows up at her office! Wouldn't that be a trip?

Julie - that's music to my writer's ears! I LOVE these warriors like you do and I'm totally addicted to this series. Tell everyone! That way I get to keep writing!

Heather - I can tell you the exact moment I fell for Ash. (Zarek's book.) I'll bet it was the same for you! I LOVED writing Antony and Parisa's story...can you tell? As for Endelle, she gets her man in book #10. I'm halfway there. Right now I'm finishing Thorne's book, which should come out in May of next year. Wish I could write them faster! LOL!

Escape - hope you enjoy my series!!!

Lori - there's a lesson in there, I'm sure, that the more we understand what people have gone through, the more we can understand why they are the way they are. Of course, Ward did a great job showing Vishous grow and change, which is one of my favorite things about paranormal!

Erin - those bosses! Honestly! How about all companies institute free-reading Fridays, you know, like casual Friday's, lol! Hope you enjoy ASCENSION!

Barb - yeah, we belong to the Acheron club, no question! Isn't it funny how we get so invested in these characters, but as I've said before, I'll be writing along and I swear I expect Thorne or Kerrick to walk into the bedroom...I mean, that's where I write! Hey, no funny business...well, maybe a little! Ah, thank God for the imagination!

Jen - I hope you enjoy my series and sorry...no angels here - just winged vampire warriors of a seriously hunky nature!

Again, thanks for all the sharing!

    A mountain of blessings,

  39. Honestly I dont know that I can pick one. But I am looking forward to reading yours. Thanks for sharing!!

  40. One of my favorite characters is Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series because he's a powerful leader who has a very abused and painful past. Even with all the hell he went through he's still a loving and fair hero who is able to fall in love.

  41. oh the ASCENSION looks awesome , i love damon from vampire diaries as he is a bad boy lol but underneath he is loyal and faithful and i think he is just going to get more interesting as time goes by
    staceyx at telus dot net

  42. It was juicy!!

A certain vulnerability to even the strongest of paranormal characters draws me in every time.

  43. Thanks so much for the giveaway! I just purchased the first two books, so I would love to enter to win "Wings of Fire" :-)

One of my favorite characters is Zsadist from BDB.. He has gone through so much in his life but has come so far in healing from past wounds.

  44. I forgot my email address!

  45. I love the character of Rachel Morgan-- she is the one that sticks with me, I loved ASCENSION when I read it- i would love to get the other two

  46. It would have to be any of the bad-boys of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series: Zsadist, Vishous, or Rhage. I love the "bad-boy with a soul" characters...the ones that - once you get to know them - you realize that they really are more sensitive and compassionate than anyone gives them credit for! Having the tortured pasts that they have had and overcoming so much...ahhhhhhhhh, hard not to fall in love with these unlikely heroes!

Thanks for the giveaway! I think your series sounds amazing!

    darlenesbooknook at gmail dot com

  47. Maddox is probably my one and only, haha, tad over-dramatic there much??? Ofcourse I really love A LOT of paranormal guys but always he is my favourite. I read The Darkest Night just (literally) before I read Halfway to the Grave and immediately both loved Maddox and Bones. I really think it is their strength on the outside and inside. They both manage to be as-tough-as-nails and be completely loving and caring at the same time. But not just their physical strength is admirable, their total honesty to their other-halves is amazing to witness. (:

I don't want to say anymore because I'll start to gush and ramble...

Thanks for the opportunity to win and if I do win (out of some amazing universal twist) could I please take the Ascension??? Can't wait to read this series and have a good one. (:

  48. How did there get to be 4 books in this series before I heard about it?!?
I'd say Curran from the kate Daniels series for his sense of honor, duty and loyalty.

  49. I really enjoyed this post and the series sounds awesome. I'll have to start it for sure. A favorite character that comes to mind is Wraith from Larissa Ione's Demonica series. He is wonderfully flawed and a bad boy on the surface, but has a sense of loyalty and compassion underneath it all.

  50. Hey Caris,

Favorite characters hey? First one that comes to mind is Vishous from the Brotherhood of the Black Dagger series by J.R. Ward for reasons im soooo not getting into *grins*, and as a close runner up I'd have to say Acheron from Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series .. the baddest of the bad boys? Puhhhleaze thats a no-brainer lol.. tho he DOES come with a helluva Monster(Mother)-In-Law.. Destroyer of the Worlds? Yeahhh.. this could get ugly.. lol.. but i think my new favorite female character is Endelle from your own books.. shes everything id picture myself to be if i was a centuries old being such as herself.. blunt, hilarious and sexy.. love love LOVE it

  51. Hi Caris,
You are a new to me Author but no more. I love your covers and the whole premise of your books. I definitely have them on my TRL now. An answer to your question is Acheron. A tragic and horrific past and yet he's a great leader with a sense of humor and the ability to fall in love after all he went through. And loving Simi as his own. Thanks for the opportunity.

  52. Tristan de Barre and Andi Monroe comes to mind from Cindy Miles' Spirited Away. It's one of my all-time favorite romances because of Tristan's gruff-on-the-outside-yet-sweetie pie-on-the-inside attitude and Andi's strong will and independence-- yet still a completely likeable character-ness ;-)

  53. Thanks for the interview! It was great getting to know Caris a bit. The books sound great and of course, they have gorgeous covers.
