Two separate worlds ...
One passion that binds them

Wild and passionate by nature, Lyra Black is not just any werewolf. She's the future leader of the powerful pack of the Thorn - if she can stay alive long enough to inherit the title.

One of the Cait Sith bloodline of vampire cat-shifters, Jaden Harrison has no interest in the wars plaguing the world of night. But when he rescues Lyra from a violent attack, they're both captured by an insatiable desire that threatens to overwhelm them and bind them together for eternity... just as ancient enemies prepare to strike. And when they do, the Thorn and the Cait Sith - and Lyra and Jaden's love - may never recover from the deadly blow...

My Review:

I loved Dark Awakening, the first book in this series, so I had very high hopes for this story. Castle didn't disappoint me with this sequel.

Betrayal, forbidden desire, shattered dreams and an unlikely romance come together to make this a not to be missed read. I couldn't put it down and was so involved in the story I was surprised to reach the end so soon. I definitely want to read more about the characters in, and visit, Castle's Dark Dynasties world again soon.

It is not necessary to have read the first story in the series to understand what is going on but you should if only to understand Jaden better as well as the vampires of Castle's world.

This time it is Jaden's turn to find his special someone. Jaden is a vampire cat shifter. Lyra is a werewolf and pack alpha contender, hopefully. Who said dogs and cats can't play nice together?

Jaden had thought his sudden desire for her when they first met at the safe house in the first book, which didn't go too well, had just been an adrenalin induced, sick "fluke". But there'd been the sexy dreams. He was "appalled" to think he could actual want a werewolf.

They are both struggling to not give into their desires. It is forbidden -- especially from the wolves' point of view. For the vamps -- it simply isn't done. She could lose everything she's ever known, worked toward and loved if she gives into her desires for Jaden.

She is stunned when her dad hires Jaden to teach her to fight the bigger males, to give her a fighting chance to stay alive.

Includes a sneak peak at Shadow Rising, the third book in the series, and an excerpt from the first book in the series, Dark Awakening.

I am eagerly awaiting the third book in the series, Shadow Rising. Paranormal romance, vampire, and shifter fans, even urban fantasy fans, will enjoy this one. Put it on your wish list today.

  1. I enjoy reading contempory, historical or erotic paranormal romance. I prefer it to have a HEA. I like it to have a lot of detailed sex. I'm happy with flirting/kissing & one sex big sex scene or HOT & STEAMY erotic scenes!! I'm very versatile. Thanks for the chance to win! Added Midnight Reckoning to my TBR list!!!:-)

  2. I prefer contempory and erotic paranormal romance but sometimes I like a futuristic or post-apocalyptic that are hot and steamy or more. It also has to have a HEA. Midnight Reckoning is on my To Buy list and I'm working my way through the list to it. Thanks for the chance to win!

  3. I love paranormal romance a little steamy. The passion has has to be there. I like a HEA but HFN is good also. Thanks for the giveaway.

  4. I enjoy paranormal romance with an HEA. There has to be sex and lots of it. I do also read paranormal western and they are good too.

  5. I haven't read a lot of paranormals yet (it's my goal for 2012 to read more). I'd like both contemporary & historical, but it must have an HEA.

  6. Both of these books were fantastic!!

  7. Paranormals are my favorite reads, I've been looking forward to this one! tWarner419@aol.com

  8. My favorite paranormal romance sub-genre is paranormal, with a close second of historical. The story should have a HEA, it's not a romance to me unless it has one. I don't want a large amount of sex in my paranormal romance or any other romance. I don't mind steamy scenes, but it should have something to do with furthering the relationship or developing the characters, not just be thrown in so there are more sex scenes. I don't really need to read a play by play of the character's sex life, I'd rather read about their feelings, emotions, and what the relationship means to them.

  9. I love paranormals and my favorite sub genre is contemporary followed by historical. I definitely want there to be a HEA and I like lots of sex, but only if it feels right for the story. I don't want sex scenes just thrown in. I want to to add to the story and feel natural with the story.

  11. I just learned that I shouldn't try to leave a comment while also watching American Idol. I hit enter before I was done with my comment. I read a little bit of everything. I just finished reading a lot of paranormals and historicals. Right now I am reading lots of contemporary. I really don't have a favorite. I like sex scenes in my books but the tone of the scene needs to fit the book. If I am reading an historical then it suddendly has BDSM elements, it is just too jarring! However, sometimes, I want the down and dirty ;)

  12. My favorite would have to be erotic. I love a HEA, but a HFN is OK as well. If I'm not satisfied with the ending it can kill the whole book for me. So I'm a read the ending first girl, especially if it is a new-to-me author. If I don't like the end I'll quit the book.

The only time I'm OK with no HEA/HFN is if it is an ongoing series following that same couple.

I like full-out sex scenes in the books I read. This is why UF tends to disappoint me. Books like the Elemental Assassin Series where all the good details are left out make me sad. Still an awesome series, don't get me wrong, but more would not be a bad thing!

  14. I guess my favorite sub-genre for PNR would be contemporary. I do love a really good story with hot love scenes. I really enjoy erotic paranormals, but also love mainstream PNR too. I do like the sex scenes to be complete, not just kissing, hugging, and then cutting out. The HEA or HFN ending is a necessity to me.

  15. I love the blurb for this story! I am definitely adding it to my TBR! My favorite paranormal romance genre is a tie between contemporary and fantasy. And they have to have a HEA! How many books are going to be in this series? Good luck on your new release, Kendra!

  16. I love all sub-genre of PNR Books. I don't have a fav. As long as its a good story, I'm a happy girl. I prefer HEA stories but will read HFN if I know the story will turn out happy at the end of the series. Real life has so many UN-happy endings...I like my stories to have a HEA :) Um, about the sex scenes...I admit that I'm kind of a hussy...I like smut! If I wanted YA, I wouldn't be reading this blog ;) So a hot & steamy sex scene is a must for me :) Thanks for the the chance to win!!

  17. I pretty much like all sub-genre of PNR...tough to choose a favorite. I do like a lot of sex, but it needs to complement the story, not just be thrown in there. As far as the smut factor goes...depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I can swing from sweet to hot smokin' menage or lite BDSM action when the mood strikes me...on paper that is. ;) But there always has to be MORE than kissing! Don't just skip ahead to smoking a cigarette. I wanna know the details about the good stuff! I'm good with an HEA or an HFN...or even a not together but working on it, if it's a series. But don't leave me hanging if it's a stand alone. I HATE that!

  18. I like them all, but first would be contemporary PNR. I enjoy sweet all the way to erotic, but in general I like a couple of hot scenes per book. I really want a story not cobbled together sex scenes (well, I like those too...occasionally). I prefer a HEA or at least an HFN if I'm not reading just an erotic novella or short story. If it's a series an undetermined ending is fine, cause I know it'll come in a future book.

  19. I don't have a favorite sub-genre. I like them all. I do prefer a HEA ending, but if it is a series book, I will settle of a HFN if I know there will eventually be a HEA at the end of the series. I also like all the kissing, groping, hot, steamy sex scenes. The more the better. Thanks for the blog tour.

  20. I guess my favorite PNR sub-genre is contemporary. I've never really thought about it, but that's mainly what I read in PNR. I don't need a full-on HEA, but I do like it if there's an HFN at least. In UF, the story sometimes goes on over numerous books so you don't get that, but in PNR I kind of expect it. As for sex scenes, I'm neutral - it's fine if they are there, but it's also fine if they are not.

^Preferred Sub-Genre:Am Paranormal Romance Addict! Re:Sub-Genre fairly eclectic in tastes, as long as well written! Must choose order? Erotic, Fantasy - Contemporary, Western, Historical -
^Prefer, as Romantic at Heart{& none in my Life}: HEA, with next best being HFN! Usually feel Left hanging & frustrated if aren't together at end!
^Sex Scenes{depends on story & how well written} Prefer Full Out Erotic, as long is it fits story! Steamy/Gimme Details can be fine, depending on/if fits story!

  22. I like Fantasy the best although Historical is a close second. They dont have to have a happy ending immediately but I would like for it to be by the end of the series. I do like to have sex/erotica as long as it is well written. I also read YA so I get just flirting and kissing in those.

  23. I prefer historical or erotic PNR with a HEA. And honestly, I like the sex hot and steamy, full of details and erotic at times. I cant help it. I love the escape of the good book and one that allows my mind to wander is even better.
