Author Bio:
Cynthia D'Alba was born and raised in Arkansas. After being away for twenty years, she’s thrilled to be home and rooting for her Arkansas Razorbacks. She’s been a reader as far back as she can remember including forging letters from her mother when she was in grade school so she could stay inside during recess and read. She cut her teeth on Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, and the Hardy Boys. Once she discovered romance, she was hooked.

She began writing after a long career in both the medical and academic worlds and is thrilled to be with Samhain Publishing. Her debut novel, Texas Two Step, was released Feb. 28.

Would you tell us a little about yourself?
Long time reader. Mom says I could read to myself by age three and I haven’t stopped since. I’ll read just about anything, even the back of a cereal box at breakfast if that’s all I’ve got! I don’t read much horror anymore. My imagination can make my dreams too scary! I hold a number of college degrees including BSN, MS, MBA, and EdD so I’m a tad overeducated! {grin} But I loved the challenge school provided. Writing new stories does that for me now.

Congratulations on a great debut novel, Texas Two Step. What made an Arkansas gal such as your self write about Texas cowboys?
I love the cowboy mystique. Tough on the outside. Protective of those he loves. But on the inside, there’s a soft, gooey, sweet center…like a tootsie roll pop! Texas is so big, so vast and has such a range of environments; it’s a perfect backdrop for a variety of stories. Plus it’s known for big ranches.

But (and I haven’t told anyone this), I do have in the works a trilogy based in Hot Springs, Arkansas but I’m not ready to talk about those yet.

The male lead in your story has a rather famous last name in Dallas area. Pro Football Hall of Famer Tom Landry was coach of the Dallas Cowboys for twenty nine years. What influenced you to give Mitch the last name of Landry?
I wish I had a great answer but I don’t. Mitch didn’t start out as “Landry” but one day he tapped on my frontal lobe and told me I had his last name wrong. It was Landry. Now he’s been Landry for so long I’ve forgotten what the original surname was.

What thing would your heroine Olivia never be caught dead doing/saying?
Her nightmare is passing gas in public!

Tell us one quirky thing about your hero Mitch?
He likes the smell of Olivia’s breath in the morning.

What you think readers will like best about this book?
I think the hurdle this couple has to go through to get to their HEA will keep the reader engaged. BUT I think they will fall in love with Adam, Mitch and Olivia’s five-year-old son.

You incorporated some foreshadowing in Texas Two Step making me wonder which, if any, of the secondary characters will get their own stories. Can you tell us about any plans you have to give who in this book their own story?
There are plans for Olivia’s oldest brother, Travis Montgomery, and her younger brother, Cash Montgomery, to each get their own story.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you’re working on next? And what’s next for this series?
Right now I’m working on Texas Tango Tangle (working title) which is the story of Olivia’s oldest brother, Travis Montgomery. He’s been a widower since his wife died from breast cancer when they were twenty-eight. He’s now thirty-five and devoted to his ranch, until the opportunity to get a prime piece of real estate drops into his lap in the form of Dr. Caroline Graham.

The third book planned for the Texas Montgomery Mavericks Series, The Texas Buck-and-Wing (working title) will have PBR (Professional Bull Riding) champion Cash Montgomery battling his attraction to the new large animal vet, Beppie Peters.

Do you have a process or any special rituals in your writing routine?
I really like quiet at home to write, which is odd considering I write just fine in the noise at Starbucks!

Who are some of your favorite authors and what are some of your favorite books?
There are so many authors I love…Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Sylvia Day, Cindy Kirk, Jennifer Crusie, Kristan Higgins, Nora Roberts, Meg Benjamin, Stephanie Laurens and Eloisa James are just a few of my favorite romance authors. I love Robert Crais and Lee Child when I need a dose of suspense and male POV.

And which has made the biggest impact on your writing career?
Without a doubt, Susan Elizabeth Phillips had the most impact early in my career. Her books leave me breathless with her talent. I envy her storytelling ability. Lately I’d have to say Vicki Lewis Thompson. She has become a dear friend and mentor.

Since you write romance novels, what does “love” mean to you?
I hope NO ONE ever says…Never having to say you’re sorry! Seriously, this is a tough question. My niece asked me once how I knew I wanted to marry my husband and I just looked at her and shrugged and said, “You just know when it’s right.” Love is still getting butterflies in your gut when you see him after thirty years of being married. It’s wanting to do things for the other person to make his/her life better. It’s sacrifices over issues, dinners, expenses. It’s wanting to protect the other person from all of life’s ills. Loving my husband makes my life better, more comfortable, more entertaining, more everything. He’s my best friend.

Is there something you’d like to tell your fans no one ever asks you in an interview?
I have a passion for hot chocolate chip cookies and a glass of cold milk.

Fun Questions:
eBooks or print? I ADORE digital books.
Boxers, briefs or commando for your hero? Boxers
Tea or Coffee or Soft drink? Depends on the time of day. Coffee in the morning. I try to drink more water than soft drinks. Some days I do better than others!
What’s the first book you remember reading? No clue. I was probably three or so. My grade school years were consumed by Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew books.
What are you currently reading? I just finished a couple of HQ Medical Romances by Wendy Marcus. My next TBR is Robert Crais’s latest, Taken.
What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in? Contemporary Romance
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show? Survivor
Do you have a favorite quote – yours, someone famous or even infamous?
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy
making other plans.”
John Lennon
“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Yogi Berra
“Life is not a journey to the grave
With the intention of
Arriving safely in a pretty
And well preserved body,
But rather to skid in broadside,
Thoroughly used up,
Totally worn out,
And loudly proclaiming,
WOW !!!! What a ride!”

  1. Romance to me is being excited to see the other person, getting the butterflies in your stomach, being happy to stay home and do nothing as long as you do nothing together, rushing home from work just to see the other person. Congrats on the new release. Thanks for the blog tour. It's been fun.

  3. To me romance is about the struggle for a HEA. I like to see the hero and heroine face their fears and obstacles in order to be together. I like to see them realize that they can take a chance on happiness. Sometimes it is a rocky road but it is worth it in the end.

  5. Romance is when two unsuspecting individuals find love with each other.

  6. Hi Stacie. we all KNOW when we pick up a romance that there will be an HEA. That's not the story. The story is the journey...exactly what you said.

To me, romance is when the love two people share allows them to overcome the conflicts in their lives.

  19. Romance to me is loving each other a little more every day. Romance is the feeling that you will still be together 1,000 tomorrows from now. Romance is the slightest touch and sideways glance that conveys more than words ever could.
