Review Wrath by Laurann Dohner

Title: Wrath (New Species #6)
Author: Laurann Dohner
Source: Self Purchase
Genre: Paranormal/Sci-Fi erotic Romance
Length: Novel

Wrath volunteers to live and work outside Homeland where he’ll once again be confined in a small space with other males. He was subjected to horrific abuse and conditioning and forced to view endless sex tapes of human females while chained to Mercile’s perverted machines. Wrath knows he’s too dangerous and emotionally damaged to ever be with a female.

Lauren has just been detained by three big, buff, well-armed men—New Species. One of them really catches her eye. He is tall, sexy, and…her new roommate apparently. She has never met a man this truly spectacular and she decides to taste every inch of his amazing body. Wrath wants to explore that plan too. The sex is incredible and he gives her everything she needs but he’ll only go so far. Something is holding him back.

Lauren has to make him unleash his desire and Wrath has to get past his fear to give them a chance at a future together.

Laurann Dohner, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...........
No, seriously I love Laurann Dohner's books.  It seems like anything she writes makes my heart flutter.  Wrath was no exception.

If you haven't checked out the New Species series here's a rundown on the situation:

The New Species were created by a pharmaceutical company (Mercile industries) to run medical tests on and possibly be used as super soldiers.  Their makeup consists of a mixture of human and animal DNA.  With the intelligence of man and the strength and speed of nature's most feared predators they are force to be reckoned with.  When the government discovers their existence and the horrible things they've been forced to endure they are given their freedom and relocated to communities they can claim as their own.  Lead by Justice North the New Species are trying to reconcile with what was done to them and how best to proceed in the outside world.  There are still small groups of evil Mercile employees continuing experimentation with New Species that haven't been freed.  Justice North and his group of soldiers continuing goal is to find and free all of their brothers and sisters.  Which leads us to Wrath's story.....

Wrath was rescued from one of the small groups not initially freed from the larger facilities.  With his new independence he joins a task force created to find and punish Mercile employees that have eluded capture and rescue any Species that might still be imprisoned.  During his captivity he was subjected to tests that left him emotionally scarred when it comes to social interactions.  The last thing he wants is a relationship, especially with a human female.  But things change when he meets Lauren during an operation to capture an especially heinous Mercile employee.

Mistaken as the lover of the man the task force is looking for Lauren is detained and questioned.  Wrath's protective instincts kick in when Lauren is threatened and he's assigned to keep watch over her until the operation is complete.  The more time they spend together the more Wrath is drawn to Lauren.  She calls to his instincts to protect, cherish, and love.  But his damage leaves him scared to get too close.

I loved Wrath's story.  I was worried his emotional trauma would leave him too damaged to be the Alpha that I've come to expect with the New Species series, but I was wrong.  Somehow Mrs. Dohner found just the right balance.  Lauren's character started off a bit weak, but with the drive of protecting her love and his brethren she turned into a bit of baddass :)

There's just something about the way that Laurann Dohner weaves her stories that pulls me in.  She's found just the right amount of awesome story, wonderful alternate world building, and sexual heat to have me speeding through her books and thinking about them for weeks afterwards.  If you haven't checked out the New Species series, you are missing out.

Publisher’s Note: While each New Species book is a standalone, the greatest enjoyment will come from reading them in series order.
