Ascher Rousseau: An Alpha in the Making

What makes an alpha male so irresistible?
Is it the strong, sure way that he touches his heroine? Is it the confidence he exudes? Their feral and all-consuming methods of lovemaking? The effortless way they control and take charge of a situation? Or is it simply in a woman’s nature to gravitate toward the “bad boys” that we know are bad for us?
Whatever it is...I’ve always loved bad boys. While, we don’t always marry the wild child, they can be a lot of fun! As authors, I think we’re becoming more conscious of how we portray our alphas. Bad boys now have a sensitive side that makes them even more appealing.
I mean...what woman wouldn’t relish a man defeating the villain to defend her honor, then taking her somewhere and making mad passionate love to her?
Gasp.
Swoon.
The Progeny Series is about finding oneself and growing into your destiny. Ascher and Shauna’s characters change and grow in each book. The series is also about the different types of love—a human mother’s love and sacrifice, Ascher’s love for his vampire clan, sisterhood, brotherhood, and the love of a man for a woman. It was very important to me that there be strong family bonds in this series. But one of the centrifugal threads that weave through this series is the emergence of Ascher’s Alpha instincts.
I love books where we meet strong kick-ass alpha vampires, but I wanted to do something completely different. Instead of the reader meeting Ascher as he will be by the end of the series, I wanted them to go on a journey of discovery with him.

I like to think of him as an A.I.T. (Alpha in Training)
When we first meet Ascher in The Progeny, he’s disgruntled and questions the reason for his existence. He feels out of step and too different from humans or vampires to comfortably fit into either world.
His half-blooded existence is both a gift and a curse.

His genetic predisposition is to be a great vampire warrior, but fires need a spark. Enter Shawnette McCutchin. Shauna becomes the accelerant that feeds the embers in him, igniting his inner warrior and a passion that completely overpowers him. She brings with her beauty, mystery, excitement, and a sexual force that turns him inside out. This type of longing is foreign to him. In the course of their falling in love, he begins to see himself more clearly and comes to embrace his destiny.

Hence, his confidence is born.

Obstacles come at them, one after another, until Ascher’s forced to fight for his love, no matter the cost.
An alpha is born.

In the beginning, I wrote him with boyish charms and his body “more adolescent than male” because I wanted him to transform before the reader’s eyes. During the course of the series, he’ll not only change in appearance but his mannerisms, thought processes and actions will become that of a fierce warrior. Not to mention, the alpha side brings out an intense sexual drive in him that makes the love scenes more explosive.

The Progeny (Progeny Series #1)
“No fate other than the one I choose.”

The timeless creed, and tattoo, bore by the Rousseau’s— a vampire clan with the purest bloodline of any vampire family. Out of this clandestine group came one who was different, yet the same: Ascher - a half-bloodling— half- human, half vampire.

Ascher questions the purpose for his existence and which world he truly belongs to: the human world or the vampire world. Two months from sealing to Ursula— a prearranged union to a woman he abhors — he’s at his wit’s end. He knows if he calls off the sealing, the Romanian clan will strike with deadly force, but he cannot see eternity with a cold empty shell of a woman like Ursula.

Just when he thought life was complicated enough, he meets Shauna— a beautiful, bi-racial human Wiccan — and immediately develops an unshakable attraction to her. She makes him feel alive and vital despite his origins and Ascher makes a decision that turns his immortal world upside down.

Blood Bonds (Progeny Series #2)
“Forever. For always. For eternity.”

The ties that bind two hearts are powerful. For Ascher Rousseau and Shauna McCutchin, it’s more than just a blood bond. Their union is that of vampire legend. Their love is a predestined prophecy foretold centuries ago.

It’s a week before Ascher and Shauna's sealing and the couple is making final preparations for their eternity. But Ascher's ex has other plans. Ursula is hell-bent on revenge—revenge fueled by lover's scorn and her father's death—and she begins breeding a fresh army of newborn darklings to do her bidding.

When Ursula finds a new weapon—an ally with the capability to dismantle the Rousseau clan— Ascher and Shauna's bond is tested and they must stand together against Ursula or lose each other for eternity.
