Lady Eleanor Ramsay is the only one who knows the truth about Hart Mackenzie. Once his fiancée, she is the sole woman to whom he could ever pour out his heart.
Hart has it all--a dukedom, wealth, power, influence, whatever he desires. Every woman wants him--his seductive skills are legendary. But Hart has sacrificed much to keep his brothers safe, first from their brutal father, and then from the world. He's also suffered loss--his wife, his infant son, and the woman he loved with all his heart though he realized it too late.
Now, Eleanor has reappeared on Hart's doorstep, with scandalous nude photographs of Hart taken long ago. Intrigued by the challenge in her blue eyes--and aroused by her charming, no-nonsense determination--Hart wonders if his young love has come to ruin him . . . or save him.
Oh, what a seductive thrill ride these Mackenzie men take us on – with Hart Mackenzie leading the way. THE DUKE’S PERFECT WIFE delivers in spades the ultimate alpha who doesn’t take “no” for an answer, protects his own, and loves unconditionally. WOW! I want one. And it all begins with the beautiful cover of the gorgeous, kilt-wearing Paul Marron.
Ms. Ashley has written an outstanding story of relationships. Not only the rebuilding relationship between Hart and Eleanor, but those of Hart’s brother, Ian, with Hart and Eleanor. Let me say here, that this story is just as much about a second chance at love for Hart and Eleanor as it is about the growth of Ian. It was such a pleasure to watch Ian start to come out of his shell, if only just a bit.
The steam that rises from the pages will have you reaching for a glass of ice water or a handy partner! Hart foolishly tried to keep his sexual proclivities hidden from Eleanor all those many years ago, which caused her to leave him and call off their engagement. (No spoilers from me, you’ll just have to read. Sooo good!!) Yet, Eleanor is a strong woman and doesn’t let the unknown scare her; it intrigues her. The years of separation didn’t put a damper on their love; if anything, it inflamed it.
This afternoon, Hart had seized her in a forceful embrace, had pinned her wrists behind her in an impossible grip. He’d bitten down on her lip, but he hadn’t been teasing or playful. He’d had raw need in his eyes.
And Eleanor hadn’t been afraid. She’d known that Hart wouldn’t hurt her. Break her heart, yes; hurt her, no.
Tonight he was everything that was gentle. Hart touched her lip in the place he’d bruised it. Eleanor had covered the tiny bruise with a subtle amount of lip paint, but Hart knew exactly where he’d marked her.
“Did I hurt you?” he whispered, brows drawing together.
Eleanor couldn’t stop her tongue darting out to touch her lip. “No.”
“Don’t ever let me hurt you,” he said. “If I do anything you don’t like , you say, Stop Hart, and I will. I promise you that.”
She shook her head. “You‘ve never done anything I didn’t like.” She blushed as she said it.
Hart touched her upper lip. “I’m a wicked man. You know that. You know all my secrets.”
There is plenty of political plotting interwoven throughout the novel as Hart and
his coalition maneuver to take over as the majority political party and Hart as Prime Minister. All of this political posturing leads to a few eye opening experiences for the Mackenzie family.
What captured me the most about THE DUKE’S PERFECT WIFE is the powerful and remarkable passion of Eleanor and Hart. Not only the hunger shared between the two of them, but the passion they have for everyone and everything around them. Hart’s constant battle to succeed at all costs is the mirror of his cruel childhood under his father’s fist. His love for Eleanor is so intense, it is breathtaking to the point of shattering. Once Eleanor has decided upon a course, there is no changing her mind. She knows exactly how to handle Hart (or a paid assassin in one instance) in all of his moods.
THE DUKE’S PERFECT WIFE takes Hart and Eleanor on a profound journey. On the other side, they discover trust, surrender, pleasure and unconditional love.
