After rogue archeologist Mariah Hunter dumps a cache of ancient Mayan coins in the Mexican jungle, she ends up with a bounty on her head and needs a quick cash infusion to cover the debt. So when she hears that a priceless stone is up for grabs in a remote region of Germany, she scrambles to reach it before her rivals.

Nearly three hundred years ago, in a futile attempt to rescue his family from a mercenary horde, Rafe Forsyth springs an evil trap that keeps him captive within a hidden stone. Alone with his grief and rage for centuries, he is unprepared for the rush of attraction he feels for the beautiful adventurer who liberates his body…but can she save his soul?

Together, Rafe and Mariah race against time to recover the stolen coins and discover the means to free Rafe from the curse’s evil magic. Because until the curse is broken, the Gypsy’s kiss is the truest danger of all…

In Julie Leto's third book in the phantom series we meet another Forsyth brother, Rafe.  Rafe is released by Mariah - a character that we've briefly met in previous books.  Mariah is on the run from some treasure hunters (after losing their treasure) and since Rafe is trapped in a gemstome.  At first Mariah is determined to sell the stone or trade it in for her debts, but once she realizes what she has, she knows she could never part with it, or him.

My favorite story of the series so far, but unfortunately the characters weren't as good as previous episodes. Mariah was a little too much of a hard-ass and Rafe was far too whiney to be a good alpha-male.  Their saving grace was that they both manage to come to their senses by the end of the book and make a fantastic couple.  I really can't wait for the fourth book to come out to find out what brother we get to meet next.

  1. I really enjoy this series and can't wait to read this one. Added to TBR pile! Really happy to hear a fourth book is going to be released, can't wait!

Glad to hear you enjoyed this book but not the characters that much. Sounds like a reverse role with the heroine being tough and the hero being whiny.

    Have a great reading week!

  2. I was excited to hear that she will be able to continue the series as well. I hated not knowing about the rest of the siblings - especially Serina after we found out a little more about her in this one.
