Characterfest interview # 24 with Veiron by Felicity E Heaton

Please welcome Verion and  Felicity E Heaton

I’m here today to catch up with a very special man. Actually, he’s more of an angel, but we don’t really use that word around him because he was forced to fall into the Devil’s service and become one of his Hell’s angels, so he gets twitchy and a little bit mad whenever anyone mentions that word in relation to him.

I have permission from his heroine to pay him a visit today, which is a good thing because Erin can get seriously jealous when any woman so much as flicks a glance at her smexy man! Totally understandable. He’s a lethally hot warrior after all. Extremely swoon-worthy and the ultimate bad boy.

I’m in an apartment building in London. It’s a tasteful brick affair and we’re on the top floor, where there are only two flats. The corridor is stark white and minimalist, and I know that the apartment I’m approaching looks similar on the inside, mixing clean smooth walls with an open ceiling that reveals industrial pipes.

I flex my fingers to settle my nerves and then knock. It has been a while since I last saw Veiron, and I’m eager to catch up with him.

The pale door eases open to reveal the six-foot-plus immense slice of smexy himself. His dark eyes pin me and I swallow, basking in his beauty. His dark red eyebrows pinch together.

“You’re looking at me like I’m prime steak,” he says, his deep baritone doing strange things to my insides. “If Erin were here, she’d be getting testy right about now.”

“Oh, she’s out?” Why does that thought please me so much? I get Veiron alone. Heavens. “What a shame.”

A sexy grin tugs at his lips. “Yeah, right.”

He steps back and even that small action makes me sigh as his muscles shift beneath his tight black clothing. I flick a glance at his crimson hair. It was beautiful when it was longer but he’s pulling off the shorter style, and it has already grown to his shoulders.

“No lucky leather thong?” I reach up and twirl the short ponytail at the back of his head and he smiles again.

“Erin doesn’t like it.” He catches my hand and presses a kiss to the back of it. “Now, we have an interview to do, don’t we?”

I nod dumbly. His hand is hot against mine, fingers pressing in deliciously. He kicks the apartment door closed and leads me inside. The apartment is open plan, with a huge bank of windows opposite me and the bright pink kitchen to the left. It was Erin’s bachelorette pad originally. Veiron leads me to the living area on the right and releases my hand. He sprawls out on the black chaise longue, melting into the midnight velvet fabric, and stretches his arms up and settles his hands against the back of his head.

Every muscle on his broad torso is taut beneath his t-shirt and it’s hard to keep my eyes off him. He grins again, a smug edge to it, and I don’t bother to deny that I was gawping.

I seat myself on the couch at a ninety degree angle to the chaise longue and mull over my questions as Veiron stares at me, the intensity of his look making it hard to think.

“It’s been a while since we last saw each other. How have things been since then?” I’ll start with something easy to test the waters. You never know what will set Veiron off and have him growing by three feet, turning black all over, and going demonic.

He purses his lips and frowns. “It’s been difficult. Erin is a handful, now more than ever. She can be a nightmare at times, but I love her so I put up with it. I know she has a lot on her plate right now and I’ve learned to cut her some slack, even when she’s railing on me about the stupidest things.”

“You hero,” I say and he grins again, charming to the last. “Have you had any unwanted visitors?”

He shakes his head, causing a few rogue strands of his crimson hair to fall down and graze his cheek. “No. All quiet on the western front. Even Marcus and Amelia are enjoying some peace for a change. I doubt it will last. The longer it goes on, the more I begin to suspect that Heaven and Hell are planning something.”

“Me too. Let’s talk more about your romance. In fact, I’ve just released the book I wrote about how you and Erin met. Can you tell us a little about it?”

He sighs and tips his head back, and then swallows, drawing my eye to his Adam’s apple and strong neck. Yum. His head snaps back down and he’s grinning again. I let him soak up the attention, knowing that he’s loving it in his own way.

“Amelia, Erin’s sister, asked me to go to Hell to save Erin when the Devil took her. Fuck, I wasn’t expecting the woman I found in that cell. I thought she would be like Amelia, but Erin is nothing like her. She’s sassy, beautiful, and bloody stubborn. I knew I was done for the moment I set eyes on her and she stood up to me. Christ Almighty, I really knew it in that instant but I did my best to deny it.”

“It didn’t quite work though, did it?”

He shakes his head again. “Hell, no. Erin is... well, she’s stubborn like I said. She pursued me and battered at my resolve until I crumbled and gave up the fight. She’s relentless.”

I smile. “I know that. She’s certainly a handful but you two seem so perfect for each other. It must have been difficult though. You both had your doubts throughout your growing relationship and some things happened that really threatened to tear you apart forever.”

Veiron rakes a hand through his hair. “We did a merry dance, alright. One moment we would be close and then next miles apart. I know I was hard work for her, but I don’t think anything between us was ever easy, not in those early days. We both had our doubts and things to overcome.”

“I’m glad you worked through it though because I knew you were destined to be together. Erin loves you a lot,” I say and a touch of crimson colours his cheeks and he averts his gaze, staring beyond me to the bank of windows.

He shrugs his broad shoulders. “I love her too.”

“Ah, it’s so sweet that you blush when you say that.”

His dark eyes shift to me and narrow. Red rings his pupils like a fiery corona. “Do not.”

The way he growls those two words has me reconsidering and maybe issuing a retraction, but I hold my nerve.

“Do too.”

He scowls at me and sits up, bringing his arms down and settling his hands in his lap. The man has biceps the size of footballs and the tattoos that curl around them make me want to run my fingers over his golden skin.

“Do not.” He growls again.

I shrug this time. “Whatever. I know I saw you blush. I’d like to talk a little about you... if that’s okay?”

His look turns wary but he nods.

“You were an angel of Heaven once, a very long time ago, and were forced to fall as part of an eternal game between Heaven and Hell.”

“I was.” He lies back again and sighs, causing his chest to tighten against his t-shirt. I barely resist purring. “I’m one of the pawns in their game. Marcus is Heaven’s pawn, and I’m Hell’s. Since all angels were born in Heaven, I always end up back there whenever the game is decided and I die. I get a few nice years as a good guy and then I fall. Nothing I do changes it.”

“So you’ll fall regardless of what you do? You can be a good guy, a perfect angel, totally dedicated to Heaven and everything that entails, and you’ll still fall?”

He nods and his expression blackens. “Correct. I don’t get a choice and I don’t know it’s going to happen to me. All angels are reborn without memory of their previous life. The Devil is a little fucker though and whenever I fall and pledge myself to him, he restores all my memories.”

“Because it amuses him when I suffer. He doesn’t like me and with good reason. I have a tendency to give him hell, especially in this incarnation. I’m determined to see him fall... to kill him and end this game.”

“At the start of your book, that’s what you’re focused on. You want to complete your vengeance mission and end the game, but not just for your sake. You want to free Marcus and Amelia from it too. That’s very noble.”

He looks away again, clearly uncomfortable with my praise.

“But now Erin is part of the game.” I regret saying that when his eyes burn red and he locks them on me.

“She is... and I am more determined than ever to end this game and free us all. I will do it, but I have to wait. Falling in love with Erin and everything that has happened has taught me patience. We need to wait for the right moment.”

“It’s good that you’ve learned not to rush headlong into danger. I think Erin has been very good for you.” I lean back in the couch and thumb through my notes, looking for the next thing to ask. “With everything that happened in your book, which was pretty monumental, do you think it will be long before one of the realms comes after you all?”

He shakes his head. “We’re all waiting. We’ve all been training hard, making the most of the time we’ve had. Everyone is ready for the war that is coming... it’s just a matter of when now, and who will be the realm to come at us first.”

“Isn’t there a danger that they’ll come at you together?”

Veiron closes his eyes. “We have considered that.”

The solemn edge to his deep voice says that they’ve all discussed it and what the outcome of such an attack would be, and the future for them doesn’t look bright if it happens.

“They won’t team up on you right now though.” I lean forward and he opens his dark eyes and slides them to me.

“They won’t.” There’s certainty in his tone and a hint of relief too. “You’re right about that.”

The door opens and I glance across to find Erin in the doorway, bags of shopping hanging from her arms. Veiron is on his feet in an instant and beside her, taking the heavy bags from her and setting them down in the living room. It’s sweet to see him fussing over her.

“You should have told me you were buying so much crap.” He smoothes his palm over her cheek and Erin smiles up at him, her amber eyes bright with affection.

I smile at them both. They’ve come so far from when they first met and their journey is only just beginning, but it’s nice to see them so in love and so focused on each other’s needs.

Erin dips to one side to see past Veiron and waves at me. “Hi. I hope you didn’t ask him anything that made him growly.”

“I did my best not to. We were just talking about what happens next.”

Erin takes Veiron’s hand in hers, interlinking their fingers, and smiles at me. “It’s simple really. We’re going to hand their arses to them.”

I love her optimism. Veiron frowns down at her, concern shining in his eyes as well as a little male pride and love.

“What do you say to that, Veiron?” I stand and gather my things. The way Veiron is looking at his woman, I have the feeling he wants me out of his life so he can spend some time alone with her.

He grins at me. “What she said. Whoever comes after us, even if they come at us together, we’re going to kick their arses. We’ll end this game and we’ll have our freedom.”

I can’t help but smile at that. “I hope that happens.”

Erin moves aside as I approach and I head past them to the corridor. Veiron moves behind his woman and settles his arms around her waist, looping them under hers and resting his hands on her stomach. My smile widens at the sight of them together, a demonic angel and the woman who now commands his heart.

I have no doubt that together they will live to see the day when they’re free and can live in peace.

“Thanks for having me, Veiron.” I offer him a smile and then turn it on Erin. “Take care of him. He’s definitely a keeper.”

She grins at me and leans her head against his arm. “Take care too. I’m sure we’ll see you again soon.”

I nod and walk down the corridor. I’m sure they will see me again soon enough, and I’m sure it will be just as exciting, exhilarating, and dangerous as our last journey into their world.

You can read more about Veiron and Erin in their romance, Her Demonic Angel. The novel is available from all major ebook retailers and is also available in paperback from Amazon.
